Since its establishment in 1992, Smetanová Cukrárna has flourished in the West European market. Initially a family venture with a single physical plant, it has since expanded its footprint with additional facilities. Today, Smetanová Cukrárna stands as a premier supplier to both national and international chains within the Czech Republic and beyond. Currently, it serves esteemed clients such as Tesco, Makro, Ahold, and Billa, while also holding a substantial portion of the independent market.
With a fleet exceeding 50 vehicles, Smetanová Cukrárna efficiently delivers over 30 million units of products annually.
Challenges faced by Smetanová Cukrárna before implementation
The company was using static routing, which did not allow for high-quality planning and prompt route changes for such a large number of vehicles and delivery points. Fleet and staff resources were used inefficiently due to the outdated logistics management method.
The main problems before the implementation of TMS were:
- Lack of quality planning and the ability to quickly intervene in the set routes;
- Unsatisfactory level of service and customer complaints about late/delayed delivery of goods;
- High level of transportation costs;
- Lack of control over drivers during the delivery process.
Implementation process
Updating delivery data
The geo-referencing of delivery points and the time windows of each delivery point were updated. We also recorded and entered into the system all road restrictions for freight transport for further route planning with them in mind.
Integration with the client’s software (ERP, GPS)
One of the reasons the client chose LEAFIO Rinkai TMS was the ability to quickly integrate with existing software that the client uses to collect requests, WMS, GPS provider, etc.
Automation of the route building process
Before implementing LEAFIO Rinkai TMS, the company used static routing. First of all, the task of the implementation team was to train the staff to work with the dynamic route planning system. Subsequently, analytics were built based on data that was collected and transmitted to the system in real time.
Implementation results
As a result of the implementation of the LEAFIO Rinkai TMS system, the company was able to change routes dynamically, taking into account the traffic situation, customer requests, and the condition of the fleet. Thanks to the automation of route planning, the company managed to reduce the influence of the human factor and use the company's logistics resources as efficiently as possible.
This step helped to improve customer service and increase loyalty, as all deliveries were now made on time and met the specified time windows.
Logisticians, in turn, were able to track order status in real time. Also, it became much easier and faster to make changes to the route, even if the route is already in progress.
Thanks to the system's functionality, we managed to reduce the number of overruns and cut logistics costs by 20%.
